Drive them out

In my work, I talk with people in other parts of the world about their experiences of war and terror. These people, from Iraq, Palestine, South Africa, Lebanon, and Europe for example – express astonishment at what we Americans are allowing to happen in our country. Some ask me why the American people are so docile in the face of these illegal wars. They ask me why the American people are so docile as the Bush Regime violates our constitution and our politicians stand by and do nothing. So it gives me great pleasure to stand here today with so many of you who are not docile. Instead you are determined to drive out the Bush Regime.

And you are determined to drive them out, aren’t you?

But let’s not imagine that getting rid of GW Bush and the Bushies will solve our problems. No, Bush is only the latest and the worst of his class and his worldview to grab power. It is the system that he represents that is our greatest danger. It is system of raping the planet, its resources, its indigenous people, and its diversity for profit. There are many others in this system just like Bush waiting to do exactly what he is doing. Once we drive out the Bush regime we must also drive out that system and the politicians who share the same corporate interests.

Can we drive them out?

Yes, we can. And we have some great examples of people doing just that: Last December, the Bolivian people drove out their neo-liberal government and elected Eva Morales.

Last March the Spanish people drove out Jose Aznar’s pro-war pro-Bush government

Last April the Italian people drove out Bulasconi’s pro-war pro-Bush government;

Right now we’re seeing the biggest revolt in more than a century by the British people against pro-war pro-Bush ally Tony Blair – and this revolt includes members of Blair’s own party.

And next month, the American people can drive out the pro-war pro-Bush politicians who are failing us…

For, yes, you cannot wait, I cannot wait, the world cannot wait and watch as Bushies destroy our planet, our communities, our families. Let’s drive them out...
